RAST Activity

Question 3

When performing RAST, how would one know if the levels of IgE are high or low in a given serum?
If the optical density of the liqid in the tubes is high, then the patient has high levels of antigen-specific IgE.
If the counts per minute are over 20,000, the patient has high levels of allergen specific IgE.
High and low levels of IgE can be determined by comparing your sample with a chart provided in each RAST kit.
One must run known negative and positive serum controls to determine if the patient sample is high or low in allergen-specific IgE.
